Conceptual engineering study. A camera inspects NEXO, detects an anomaly, and a Cartesian portal guides the piece at the speed of the conveyor belt to collect it without stopping the line and separating it for inspection. The sequence is played in a loop. This is not a commercial machine or a design validated for manufacture.

01 / Purpose

At the forefront of industrial technology.

In i-mas, we develop advanced industrial automation solutions, combining machine vision, robotics, and deep learning algorithms tailored to real-world production environments.

We are integrating artificial intelligence into critical processes to detect errors, optimize decisions, and improve traceability – all automatically and in a scalable way. Our multi-sector expertise allows us to design bespoke systems that increase productivity, reduce costs, and enhance operational reliability.

02 / Services

What do we do in automation?

You can either hire the entire process or a specific service. All of this is carried out by the same team, with the workshop and laboratory located nearby.

01

Robotics

We are integrating collaborative robots (cobots) to automate repetitive, monotonous, or dangerous tasks in industrial environments. We configure paths, tools, and safe, flexible, and processes-specific routines.

02

Inspection

We detect defects in real-time using machine vision and artificial intelligence systems. We utilize industrial cameras and deep learning algorithms to inspect products automatically, adapting to multiple references without manual intervention.

03

Quality

We’ve automated industrial quality control using machine vision, verifying dimensions, finishes, and the presence of critical elements. Each inspection is documented with visual traceability and recording per unit produced.

04

Traceability

We develop industrial traceability systems that record, process, and link production data and images in real-time. These systems integrate with ERP, MES, or database systems, ensuring complete control over the manufacturing process.

05

Automation

We design bespoke industrial automation solutions to optimise production processes. From robotised cells to complete lines, we offer turnkey projects including hardware, software, and vision systems integration.

03 / How we work

Intelligent, scalable, and results-oriented automation.

We combine machine vision, robotics, and artificial intelligence to develop complete, tailored solutions for the most demanding industrial environments. We integrate mechanical, electronic, software, and control engineering within comprehensive projects – from design and installation to commissioning.

We develop bespoke systems that enhance traceability, reduce errors, and optimize processes using state-of-the-art technology.

How it works

Your line, inspected piece by piece.

Each unit passes under the camera, and a decision is made at that moment: the one that is good continues on its way; the one that isn’t is removed by a robotic arm and placed on the rejection belt.

Frequently Asked Questions

The question that arises for anyone wanting to automate a line.

What is machine vision in a factory, and what is it used for?

It’s a system of industrial cameras and algorithms that examines each piece on the line and decides in real-time: detecting defects, verifying dimensions and finishes, ensuring that all components are present, and guiding the robot. Each unit is documented with its image and its record, so traceability is at the level of individual pieces, not batches. That’s what i-mas Vision does.

What can machine vision offer my company?

Three measurable benefits: inspection of 100% of units instead of sampling; fewer rejects and complaints because defects are detected before dispatch; and staff freed from repetitive inspection. Data for each unit is integrated with the ERP or MES and used to improve the process. At i-mas, we apply this in the automotive, pharmaceutical, consumer goods and industrial sectors.

How does one begin an automation project using machine vision?

With samples. We send both good pieces and pieces with the defects we want to detect, conducting a feasibility study using real cameras and lighting, and determining what can be reliably detected and what cannot. Only then do we create a complete system budget. i-mas handles everything “turnkey”: mechanics, electronics, PLC and HMI, software, installation and commissioning.

Which company integrates machine vision and robotics in Spain?

It’s advisable to seek an integrator certified by the software vendor, who can also handle the mechanics and control aspects. i-mas Vision, based in Montcada i Reixac (Barcelona), is a MVTec Certified Integration Partner, a member of AER (Spanish Association of Robotics and Automation), and part of a group with its own workshop for machining and electronics.

Is it the same thing to mechanize as it is to automate?

No. “Mechanization” involves creating a part by machining raw material using a CNC machine; “automation” means making a process run automatically, using robots, sensors, and vision. They are often confused because both involve using programmed machines. In i-mas, these two activities are carried out in separate facilities: the CNC workshop produces parts, while i-mas Vision automates lines.

Can an inspection system be integrated with an ERP or MES?

Yes, and it should. A traceability system records production data and images in real-time and links them to ERP, MES, or a database, so that each unit has a complete history and there’s no need to manually input any information. i-mas Vision systems are designed with this integration in mind from the outset.
