Engineering outsourcing that integrates into your team.

Engineers and designers working within your organization, backed by the technical support of i-mas.

Five graphite figures and four aluminum ones share the NEXO table. The i-mas threshold is partially cut off on the left edge.

The team represents i-mas’ engineering outsourcing service – professionals working within the client’s premises, supported by their technical office. The aluminum figures with orange trim represent i-mas; the graphite figures represent the client’s team. The five figures representing the client and four representing i-mas are a visual choice – they do not represent actual staff numbers, proportions, or volume. NEXO is a concept for the site, not a commercial product or a real client project. The dimensions are illustrative. The sequence is: Your team has a project and needs additional personnel. An i-mas mechanical engineer joins your technical office. An electronic engineer sits at the same desk. A firmware developer gets it running with you, with i-mas’ central providing support. Four i-mas profiles working on your site. A single team. The missing profiles, the time required. Drag to rotate; double-click or double-tap to restore the framing. On mobile, a horizontal swipe rotates, and a vertical swipe scrolls the page.

02 / Services

What do we do with engineering outsourcing?

You can either hire the entire process or a specific service. All of this is carried out by the same team, with the workshop and laboratory located nearby.

01

Mechanical engineering

Design and development of 3D and 2D CAD, structural simulation and FEM/CFD using Ansys, and all associated technical documentation for the project.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who needs engineers?

What is engineering outsourcing, and how does it work?

We are able to integrate engineers and technicians from an external company into our team, working at our facilities or at the supplier’s technical office, on a project basis or for a set period. i-mas has over 100 engineers and technicians spread across Spain, and every project is overseen from our central office when required.

What types of engineering roles can be outsourced?

Almost all of the personnel within a technical office. At i-mas: mechanical engineering with CAD 3D in Catia, SolidWorks and Solid Edge, structural simulation and FEM/CFD with Ansys, electrical design with EPLAN, SeeElectrical or Elcad, hardware and PCBs, firmware in C and C++, automation with PLCs, software validation (SQA), UX/UI, technical documentation, and project management.

What’s the difference between engineering outsourcing, an ETT (temporary employment agency), and a consulting firm?

What lies behind the engineer. ETT provides a person; a consultancy, a report. With i-mas’ outsourcing, the person brought in remains part of the group: they work alongside over a hundred colleagues, have a machining workshop, an electronics laboratory, and a supervisor at the central office overseeing the work. It’s not just a CV; it’s a team.

How long can we engage an external engineer?

From temporary reinforcements designed to handle sudden surges in demand, to stable equipment that has been integrated with clients for years. At i-mas, we size solutions at the outset and then adapt them as needed: if a project expands, we add profiles; if it concludes, the client doesn’t end up with a permanently fixed structure.

In which sectors would it make sense to outsource engineering?

In sectors where design demands are particularly high – including automotive, industrial, chemical, pharmaceutical, large-scale consumer goods, household appliances, telecommunications, building installations, and biotechnology – i-mas has been active for over 20 years. This extensive experience allows us to assign the most suitable technicians to each project, based on their specific sector knowledge.

Can engineering outsourcing be arranged outside of Catalonia?

Yes. The i-mas teams work across Spain, integrated into the client’s premises or remotely from the technical office in Montcada i Reixac (Barcelona), depending on the project’s requirements.
