Tray inspection using machine vision

The quality control solution presented at Advanced Factories 2022 encompasses various machine vision technologies applied to Industry 4.0.

This device was designed with the purpose of inspecting and detecting defects in trays using a combination of machine vision and industrial robotics technologies.

These solutions begin with image capture using various cameras and technologies, including visible light, infrared, hyperspectral, and structured light (3D point clouds).

Once the images have been captured, traditional image processing algorithms or deep learning techniques are applied to extract results.

Quality control line – machine vision

Integrating into a single machine automated processes utilizing state-of-the-art hardware and software technology.

In 2022, this project integrates engineering, automation, and machine vision. The major challenge faced by the engineering team was to integrate all processes, including quality control, sorting, and piece handling.

Quality control line – machine vision

Machine vision solutions for industry.

It consists of three main components that work together. The first is a de-stacker, which is a device that picks up objects and removes them from a pile or heap. Then there’s a conveyor belt, which functions as a kind of transport system, moving objects from one place to another. Finally, we have a 4-position stacker.

The stacker is a machine designed to take items from a moving line and place them into different stacks according to their destination. It consists of an X/Z handling unit, which is a type of robotic arm controlled by a programmable logic controller (PLC). This unit can move in two directions – forwards and backwards (axis X) and up and down (axis Z) – allowing it to pick up objects with precision. Furthermore, the stacker incorporates two servo motors that assist the handling unit in performing precise movements.
