However, the choice of the appropriate neural network architecture is crucial to ensure the efficiency, robustness and scalability of the system.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Typology of problems in industrial machine vision<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n<p>The nature of the problem to be addressed conditions the type of architecture required. The most common applications in the <strong>industrial field <\/strong>include:  <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Image classification<\/strong>, used for automated defect detection according to predefined categories. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Semantic segmentation<\/strong>, aimed at identifying specific areas affected in components or surfaces. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Detection and localization of objects<\/strong>, applied to dimensional control and positioning verification. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Optical Character Recognition (OCR)<\/strong>, necessary for the automated reading of codes or technical inscriptions. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>Each of these tasks requires specific configurations at the neural network level, both in its architecture and in the training of the models. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Deep Learning architectures most commonly used in industrial environments<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n<p><strong>Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) <\/strong>continue to be the basis of many <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/i-mas.com\/en\/machine-vision-an-overview-of-the-current-landscape\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">computer vision systems<\/a><\/strong>. However, depending on the level of complexity, data volume and accuracy requirements, there are more advanced architectures that better meet certain needs:  <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Classical CNNs (VGG, AlexNet)<\/strong>: suitable for basic classification tasks. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>ResNet: <\/strong>effective in deep systems with multiple layers, with good results in<a href=\"https:\/\/i-mas.com\/en\/application-of-deep-learning-models-in-real-time-defect-detection\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> complex flaw detection<\/a>. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>YOLO \/ SSD:<\/strong> suitable for real-time object detection, especially useful in moving production lines. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>UNet: <\/strong>oriented to detailed segmentation, ideal for precise surface inspection. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Visual transformers (ViT, DETR): <\/strong>applicable in scenarios with large data volumes and high accuracy requirements, particularly in R&amp;D projects. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>For compute-constrained edge devices, it is recommended to use lightweight architectures such as <strong>MobileNet <\/strong>or <strong>EfficientNet<\/strong>, which allow efficient deployment without significantly compromising model accuracy. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Technical considerations for Deep Learning model selection<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n<p>Beyond the type of task, there are technical constraints that directly influence the choice of architecture: <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Available processing capacity<\/strong> (GPU, CPU or edge computing). <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>System latency requirements<\/strong>, especially in on-line processes where immediate response is required. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Quantity and quality of labeled data <\/strong>available for model training. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>The optimal decision must strike a balance between performance, computational cost, system scalability and plant operational feasibility. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Deep Learning integration in I-MAS<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n<p>In the <strong>engineering department of I-MAS<\/strong> we apply methodologies based on more than 20 years of experience in industrial automation and machine vision, integrating Deep Learning models in different <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/i-mas.com\/en\/the-crucial-role-of-ai-and-deep-learning-in-industrial-process-optimization\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">industrial processes<\/a><\/strong>.
